Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
City officials announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for tips.
A senior official commented the incident made him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
